Why progress is gated by practice
In a residential retreat, the schedule carries you. At home, nothing does. Progressive unlocking replaces the retreat bell: you cannot rush ahead, and you always know what today's practice is.
The five precepts
The course begins by asking you to observe five precepts for its duration: to abstain from killing, from taking what is not given, from sexual misconduct, from false speech, and from intoxicants. This is not a moral entrance exam. A mind carrying fresh harm or deception does not settle, and an unsettled mind cannot observe finely enough for observation to change anything.
Two sittings a day
The traditional times are 04:30–07:00 and 18:00–21:00, and the course is built around them. If that is not sustainable with your life, sit twice a day at times you can keep. Consistency matters more than the hour.
The journal
After each sitting you write a few lines: one sensation you noticed clearly, one difficulty, one reminder for next time. It takes a minute, and over weeks it is the closest thing a home practice has to a teacher in the room.
Missed days and lives
A missed day does not reset your progress. The course tracks a small number of "lives" so that missing sittings is visible rather than hidden, but nothing is lost — you resume where you stopped.
What happens after Part 1
Parts 2 to 5 are in production. When Part 2 opens, students who have completed Part 1 are invited to continue. Until then, repeating Part 1 is the recommended practice.
